Pintester Uncovered

This time of year brings out presents, holiday cheer and shopping. With all of those things going on, other things take a fall since life is very hectic thinking about the above items alone. One blog that I found very helpful in this case is the Pintester blog. The “Pintester” goes through Pinterest post and figures out which recipes are really helpful or some are not even worth the time. She is very limited to Pinterest because of her title but I don’t think she really needs to review any other social networking sites. She posts on her blog almost every day and sees a lot of traffic on her website due to the amount of people of Pinterest repining her blogs. I think this is due to her realism and humor she portrays through her posts. They are very engaging and fun to read. When people comment, they are never really negative but they are asking for more information about her cooking that certain item. Her layout is very plain but it has to be for the amount of words and pictures she uses. The pictures pop put as do the words to keep readers engaged rather than worry about other styles on the page. I think this blog has become very successful due to the complete honesty of the page and the content. Pinterest is becoming the hot new social network and people want to read about it. This blog incorporates real pins but put them into reality in which a lot of the times, people can’t themselves. Her recipes are hard to compete with since she is being advertised on Pinterest daily and she does a very good job of keeping all of her readers entertained.

Personal Product Favorite

Salsa, pizza sauce, guacamole… are you one of those people who like to fit your sauces and sides to your tastes? If so then a Manual Food Processor is something that could help you get your taste buds kicking! It is a piece of equipment that has three parts, which detach very easy for cleaning. The top part is where you have a lever that moves the blades that are cutting your ingredients. Then there is a plastic container that holds all of your ingredients. 2 of the three parts of the Manual Food Processor are dishwasher safe but the top half must be wiped clean and not submerged in water since that piece does not open up for cleaning. This is a must have in the kitchen because it cuts chopping time in half and stops you from using your hands to cut up onions and jalapenos. In every recipe, the Manual Food Processor becomes a necessity.

Quick Salsa
2 lg. cans tomatoes
2 yellow onions
Jalapeno peppers (as many as you dare)
3 cloves fresh garlic
Garlic powder, to taste
Jalapeno juice
Italian seasoning
Salt & pepper
Any other peppers you may desire

Directions: Add a few ingredients at a time to make sure they are getting chopped up and mixed evenly.

Review of a bizarre recipe

The one thing I can count on for blogs is that there are new ones everyday, one cannot expect grade “A” cooking blogs for every Google search you do. As I search through my blogs to see what else I can provide for my customers, I find interesting blogs where I wonder how can people read these and want to cook afterwards. When I went to open this blog, the website even sounded interesting but then when I read the first blog post which was named “How To Barbeque Bats?” I knew this was a great one to review. One pro about this blog despite its contents was the video explaining how to do everything. The author decided that words would not do his subject of each blog justice so when he wrote this blog, he put a video that shows step by step instructions of how to barbeque a bat. Although I can see this blog being about survival, I don’t see many subscribers signing up to learn these types of recipes. I would assume this blogger is more of an entertainer than an informer. I have to say as a blogger that has a purpose to inform my guests, on a scale 1-10 (10 being very informative) I would give this blog a 3. I do see that it has information in the video but I believe the purpose for this video is very weak. The one great thing that blogs allows for people to do is express themselves which is very important in building self-confidence. I believe a blog can help do that if your blog is not set for a purpose for others to read daily.

Get out of a Rut!

Most people are sick of fixing the same meals over and over again only because they are running out of ideas. I would say people need some kind of inspiration to get out there and look for something “more”. In today’s busy 8-5 then dinner then helping children with homework and then a possibility of relaxation is not very intriguing when it’s the daily routine. When you start to see repetition in your daily lifestyle, you have hit a plateau. Although some of those daily duties cannot be interchangeable only for the fact that kids don’t take care of themselves but there is one thing that you can change every day if you choose to do so. Dinnertime is the moment when everything slows down and you can sit with your family and enjoy life. One might be thinking about vacations and getaways but why not bring the food creations from a vacation right to your home! It’s amazing how that can brighten ones day just by giving someone something to look forward to.
This blog takes you on a journey of different tastes and experiments. It shows an array of beautiful pictures and recipes that will make you want to travel the world to taste them yourself. It gives a hint of motivation to go outside of your own comfort zone and discover foods and ingredients that will keep you wanting more! Enough of me talking about it… go read it for yourself!

Fall-Pumpkin Favorite!

I have read many blog posts over the years to keep up with current trends in cooking or just look at what other cooks are producing in their kitchens. I found one that goes with this time of year, Halloween and pumpkins. During this time of year the taste of pumpkins never really goes out of season until the New Year. I find this because pumpkin is very easy to incorporate in to many things that already have directions such as pie, bread, muffins,

One thing I enjoy about reading different blogs is how they incorporate the pumpkin ingredient into their own recipes. In this particular blog, they give you step-by-step directions along with pictures. I know a lot of people who give up on recipes because they get tired of reading just words. Its much easier for beginners especially to follow recipes with what the next step should look like. For people who aren’t use to cooking may not be familiar with the cooking utensils being used so I think it is a good idea for bloggers to show the utensils used in the first photo they put on their blog. This gives the reader an idea if the recipe is feasible for them to do with what they already own. That’s where I come in with Artemis Cookware and offer discounts on products to create those dishes they’ve been longing to try.

15 Cooking Tips

15 Cooking Tips For All Skill Levels
  1.    The smaller the item, the higher the baking temperature. For example, I bake mini chocolate chip-toffee cookies at 500 degrees F for only 4 minutes. Perfect end result.
2.     Store spices in a cool, dark place, not above your stove. Humidity, light and heat will cause herbs and spices to lose their flavor.
3.     Use a coarse Microplane to shave vegetables into salads or vinaigrettes. You can create an orange-fennel dressing by adding grated fennel and orange zest to a simple vinaigrette.
4.     Always make stock in a large quantity and freeze it in plastic bags. That way, when you want to make a nice soup or boil veggies, you can simply pull the bag out of the freezer.
5.     If you're cooking for someone important — whether it's your boss or a date — never try a new recipe and a new ingredient at the same time.
6.     After working with garlic, rub your hands vigorously on your stainless steel sink for 30 seconds before washing them. It will remove the odor.
7.     When you deep-fry, hold each piece of food with long tongs as you add it to the oil. Hold it just below the oil's surface for five seconds before releasing it. This will seal the exterior and stop it from sticking to the pot or the other food.
8.     When chopping herbs, toss a little salt onto the cutting board; it will keep the herbs from flying around.
9.     For best results when you're baking, leave butter and eggs at room temperature overnight.
10.  When making meatballs or meatloaf, you need to know how the mixture tastes before you cook it. Make a little patty and fry it in a pan like a mini hamburger. Then you can taste it and adjust the seasoning.
11.  Instead of placing a chicken on a roasting rack, cut thick slices of onion, put them in an oiled pan, then place the chicken on top. The onion will absorb the chicken juices. After roasting, let the chicken rest while you make a sauce with the onions by adding a little stock or water to the pan and cooking it for about 3 minutes on high heat.
12.  Take the time to actually read recipes through before you begin.
13.  Anytime you are using raw onions in a salsa and you are not going to eat that salsa in the next 20 minutes or so, be sure to rinse the diced onions under cold running water first, then blot dry. This will rid them of sulfurous gas that can ruin fresh salsa. It's really important in guacamole, too.
14.  When you're browning meat, you should blot the surface dry with a paper towel so the meat doesn't release moisture when it hits the hot oil. Too much moisture makes the meat steam instead of sear, and you will lose that rich brown crust.
15.  Invest in a bottle of high-quality olive oil. Just a small drizzle can really bring out the flavor of pizza, mozzarella, pasta, fish and meat.
